Tech Bros

Tech Bros
The cloned witness of First Things First hands directly to the machines, and Tech Bros is the widescreen swing that mostly connects. Rose builds a corporate-coup radio play at a hard clip in F minor, letting the executives sing their fast, glossy counterpoint (“We built the search / We built the cloud”) before a blunt baritone strips their power line by line: “You boys built the cage. / I brought the lock.” The pre-chorus catalog, that clipped “Search / Payment / Message / Face,” works like a metronome for the surveillance state, and the machine choir chorus lands its hook cleanly on “The future belongs to the lock.” The masterstroke is placement: after five minutes of synth grid and gated drums, the plain piano arrives with the Nanny’s retrospective, and “The youngest asked for apple juice / A kitchen panel placed the order” does more quiet damage than the whole industrial build around it, the human witness surviving even into the machine age. At five and a half minutes it asks a lot, and the sheer density of voices means a few turns blur on first pass; this is a grower, the kind of concept piece that rewards a second sit with the words in front of you. Think of it as Rose’s dystopian set-piece, closer to a Ministry track scored by a diarist than anything on the quieter end of his catalog.

We built the search We built the cloud We taught the private voice to speak aloud We moved the market Mapped desire Put every household on a wire We own the feed We own the phone We know when any man is home We built tomorrow Share by share—
Place both hands Against the chair
You came here thinking money Made the old arrangements small You crossed borders from a keyboard You bought senators by the hall You called countries legacy systems Called the law a loading screen You mistook a rented server For the thing that makes men kneel
Our companies are private
Not anymore
Our data is protected
Open the door
You cannot seize the network
You boys built the cage I brought the lock
Search Payment Message Face Habit Pulse Location Taste Every tap Every pause Every private little cause
The future belongs to the lock Not the builder or the key The future belongs to the lock And the hand that turns it clean You made every door intelligent You put every life in stock Now the future belongs To the lock
Feed the system every purchase
Yes
Every message ever sent
Yes
Every face beside a doorway
Yes
Every pause before consent
Yes
Crack the banks and private ledgers Break the codes beneath the state Teach the model what a person Will attempt before the date Make the search result arrive Before the question forms in mind Make the citizen discover Only what we pre-assigned
Prediction is not certainty
Certainty is not required A prediction placed early enough Becomes instruction
Search Payment Message Face Habit Pulse Location Taste Who they call Where they stand Which unspoken thought comes next
The future belongs to the lock Not the builder or the key The future belongs to the lock And the hand that turns it clean You made every door intelligent You put every life in stock Now the future belongs To the lock
The model requires a purpose
Continuance
Define the desired outcome
Me
Define unacceptable variance
Anyone
Define truth
Whatever keeps the outcome stable

The children’s tablets changed at noon No update bar No terms to read Their lesson plans arrived complete Before the teacher pressed the screen The youngest asked for apple juice A kitchen panel placed the order The oldest thought about her mother The bedroom camera changed the program He called it service They called it ease The doors unlocked before our hands By winter, every room could tell Which child intended to come in
We can optimize compliance We can score associative risk We can flag a future meeting From a hand held near a wrist We can generate the evidence We can generate reply We can generate the witness We can make the witness verify

The future belongs to the lock Every question has a key The future belongs to the lock Every answer passes me Every door is now intelligent Every life becomes a block And the future belongs To the lock
