Make It All Fine
Here’s the rare song about the terror of the blank page that doesn’t flinch from its own subject. Over palm-muted eighth notes at a driving 143 in F minor, PCBender lays out the writer’s oldest fear as a confession: “But it plays back like a record / That I’ve already heard.” The verses stay close and sparse, then the chorus opens into full power chords and a strained tenor belt on “Can I borrow your brilliance / And claim it as mine,” and that lift is the whole engine of the track. What keeps it honest is the outro, where the drums pull to half-time and the question resolves without cheating: “Maybe I’m not a thief, just a person asking why.” The self-flagellation runs a touch long across two nearly identical choruses before the bridge earns its turn, but that final couplet, “Let me get it right / In a way that’s new,” lands the argument the whole song has been building. A highlight, and a smart one.

Lyrics
I stare at blank white pages Like they've seen me before Every line I reach for Feels like footsteps on your floor I move the second verse up Swap a word out for a word But it plays back like a record That I've already heard
So I wear it like a scar Try to call it art But the label's in the collar And it's someone else's heart
Can I borrow your brilliance And claim it as mine Step into a costume And feel like I shine Take one little ride And merely refine As if saying sorry Will make it all fine
There's a ghost in my notebook With a sharper kind of hand Every line I thought was new Comes back to me second-hand I don't want to be him I don't even want to claim I just want one honest word That answers to my name
So I stand at the edge of the thing I want to be Half of me is singing Half is asking, "Is this me?"
Can I borrow your brilliance And claim it as mine Step into a costume And feel like I shine Take one little ride And merely refine As if saying sorry Will make it all fine
Can I borrow your brilliance And claim it as mine I keep reaching for something That was already signed Take one little ride And merely refine As if saying sorry Will make it all fine
Maybe every voice is weather passing through the same old sky Maybe I'm not a thief, just a person asking why If I can't be first Let me still be true Let me get it right In a way that's new
