Invocate

Coming out of the opener’s deliberate naming of doubt, ‘Invocate’ shifts the album’s weight from introspection to momentum, and the shift feels earned. Moving at a faster, more locked-in clip, it drives forward with the kind of certainty that suits lyrics about acting before choosing rather well. The chorus opens up cleanly, the vocal melody lifts, and the line ‘we are the tune that hums itself’ lands with enough weight to justify the whole build. Blues-inflected guitar and a punchy rhythm section keep it grounded while the ideas get philosophical, a balance Lingua Aeternum doesn’t always stick so cleanly. At the album’s midpoint it functions as the peak, the moment where everything the first track was reaching toward suddenly arrives. ‘The Memory I’ll Borrow’ has a high bar to clear coming next, and the fact that it mostly clears it says something. A genuine highlight.

Lyrics

Before it was, it never was The jukebox plays before it’s pushed A look, a glance, another chance The song repeats-an ancient dance

Dominos fall in all directions The window sees its own reflections The clock unwinds its second hand We march in time without a band

It echoes in the act of trying The shape is formed by what relays We are the tune that hums itself The thread in knots as it obeys

Each beginning has beginnings And every ending still pretends Nothing ever really starts It only loops, then shifts and bends The road behind is ever long The path ahead pretends to end And we who choose to wander Trace the shape we apprehend

Not cause, not fate and not effect The mirror breaks but still reflects I move before I make the choice The echo carves, it gives a voice
