Resistor
‘Resistor’ arrives with the difficult job of following an opener that makes a big noise, and it handles that by doing something structurally smarter rather than louder. Where ‘Conductor’ detonated, this one coils. The verses hold back at a measured pace, the chorus releases exactly what they’ve been rationing, and the spoken-word turn, ‘a creative force constrained is power denied,’ lands with the kind of plain authority John Hiatt manages at his most direct. The metaphor, creative pressure behaving like voltage across a resistor, is more than a clever title: PCBender makes the music behave the same way, building in the same register it describes. The guitar solo is melodic without showing off, which is exactly what the track needs. After the operatic sweep of ‘Conductor,’ this is a welcome demonstration that the album has range, and the control it displays makes the songs that follow feel earned rather than inevitable.
Lyrics
Trading force for heat… once again…
Melody sung not too fast Measured steps, the volume blasts Voltage climbs, I pull it down Holding steady—balance found
Steady hands define the wave Limit what the chorus craves No excess, no reckless show Only when I let it go
One more take, one more hour Let it build, then take it higher Every spark is locked inside Stopping, waiting—now it rides
Patterns form inside the frame Order builds within the game Wires twist but stay in line Regulated, by design
Steady hands define the wave Limit what the chorus craves No excess, no reckless show Only when I let it go
One more take, one more hour Let it build, then take it higher Every spark is locked inside Stopping, waiting—now it rides
Hold… Slow… Limit… Stop…
A creative force constrained is power denied
One more take, one more hour Let it build, then take it higher Every spark is locked inside Stopping, waiting—now it rides
Trading force for heat… once again…
