A Good Day To Be
This is 4Castle at rest, and it suits them. Where the band usually stacks five voices and shifts time signatures, here they hold the space with fingerpicked nylon-string guitar and a single breathy female lead, the whole thing built out of tiny observations: “cat distracted / one eye closed,” “smell of cumin / the kitchen window open.” The pace never feels rushed because the phrasing hangs back, and the chorus, “a good day to be / before the wind changes,” lands as the quiet thesis of the record, gentle enough that you almost miss how much it’s carrying. Listen for the guitar figures that frame the bridge around the two-and-a-half-minute mark, where the arrangement thins to voice and single guitar before the harmonies steal back in; it’s the closest this track comes to showing off, and it does it by pulling back. Not the showcase for their virtuosity, and it isn’t trying to be, but it’s a grower that rewards a second, closer listen.
Lyrics
cat distracted one eye closed the sun remembering after dark broom sweeping a clean floor the sound of steps unheard
grass still wet one bird searches the road bends away a good day to be before the wind changes
smell of cumin the kitchen window open rain finding the dust already dry shadows longer wind chimes ring the crickets keep their distance
grass still wet one bird searches the road bends away a good day to be before the wind changes
a deep breath light through the curtain blanket on the floor
grass still wet one bird searches the road bends away a good day to be before the wind changes
