PCBender builds ‘Gemini Rising’ around one of his cleanest structural instincts: strip the verses down to a breathy vocal over acoustic guitar, then let the chorus hit like a door thrown open, full drums and a wall of guitars rushing in at once. In 3/4 time at 123 BPM the song has a natural swell to it, and the lyric earns its big moments, especially the line ‘a heart you almost, but never quite, caught,’ which lands with exactly the kind of double-take a good hook needs. The C major key keeps it open and declarative, which suits the character being drawn. A highlight.
